Navigating Qualification Verification: Streamlining the Process for Construction Professionals
As the construction industry in the country continues to grow, the need for a robust system to evaluate and register professional qualifications has become increasingly important. A recent meeting between representatives from the Planning Authority, the Seychelles Qualifications Authority (SQA), and other stakeholders aimed to address the challenges and explore solutions in this area.
One of the key issues raised was the difficulty faced by applicants in obtaining the required documentation, such as original transcripts, especially for qualifications obtained more than 10 years ago. "Often, we see that people who have graduated 20 plus years ago may have difficulty providing the necessary documentation," explained one participant.
The SQA representatives acknowledged this challenge and emphasised their willingness to explore alternative methods of verification. "We understand that in some cases, the person may not have all the documentation, but if you have your original certificate, this is what is most important," said the CEO of SQA.
The group also discussed the need for better coordination between the various authorities involved in the process, including the Planning Authority, SQA, and even the Department of Immigration. "There are many actors in this process, and we're trying to get all the rules together so that you can fulfill your obligations," noted a Planning Authority representative.
Participants agreed that finding ways to make the application process more user-friendly and accommodating would be crucial as the demand for professional registration increases. "This is a valid point, and we should include it in the review of our guidelines and criteria," acknowledged the SQA CEO.
As the construction industry continues to evolve, the ability to efficiently evaluate and register professional qualifications will be essential. By addressing the challenges and exploring collaborative solutions, the stakeholders involved aim to create a streamlined process that supports the growth and development of the sector.
